BIOLOGY : CELL COMMUNICATION (PART 1)

hello everybody, it is BIOLOGY TIME.
(FOUNDATION IN SCIENCE STUDIES-BIOLOGY-SEM 2)

CELL COMMUNICATION (PART 1 )

Each cell responds only to certain signals, however, and ignores the rest, like a person following the conversation of a person or two individuals in a noisy, crowded room.

The location of the receptor can either be :-
  1. Intracellular , for hydrophobic ligands that can cross the membrane
  2. Or in the plasma membrane, for hydrophilic ligands that cannot cross the membrane.

MECHANISMS

A. SYNAPTIC SIGNALLING
 Chemicals synapse signalling involves
transmission of signal molecules, called neurotransmitters,
from a neuron over a small synaptic gap to the target cell.

B. ENDOCRINE SIGNALLING
Hormones are released into the organism's circulatory system,
which carries them to the target cells.

C. DIRECT CONTACT
Two cells in direct contact with each other may send signals across gap junctions.

D. PARACRINE SIGNALLING

Secretions from one cell have an effect only on cells in the immediate area.

EASIEST THIN CRUST APPLE PIE RECIPE EVER !

hello you ! today I have a recipe that I want to share. it is EASY THIN CRUST APPLE PIE RECIPE !

why I'm saying this is easy? because the pie crust is just made of spring roll pastry, or 'kulit popia', which you can easily buy at supermarkets. so we only have to cook the apple pie filling and bake the pie. easy. so here's the recipe.

INGREDIENTS :
1. 2 Granny Smith apples (Green apples)
2. 2 teaspoons Cinnamon powder
3. Some cloves
4. 1/4 cup sugar
5. 2 tablespoons butter
6. 2 tablespoons orange juice ( I just used half an orange )
7. Spring roll pastry (square )
8. A bowl of water

METHOD :
1. Peel and cut the apples into small cubes.
2. In hot pan, melt butter.
3. Add apples, cloves and cinnamon powder.
4. Add sugar and orange juice.
5. Cook until the apples are soft or for about 10 minutes.
6. Let cool.
7. For thin crust, just use one piece of the pastry. For slightly thicker crust, use two ply. First, lay the pastry on flat surface. Using your finger, put a little bit of water along the edges of the pastry.
8. Put about 1 tablespoon of apple pie fillings at the middle of the pastry, avoiding the moist edges.
9. Fold the pastry to become a rectangle, just like the picture above. close the edges using your finger and some water.
10. Bake for 5 minutes. yeah, I know, very quick !

so that is all. I loved it because it's super easy to make and delicious too. hope you'll love it too. thanks for reading.

much love,

CHEMISTRY : ORGANIC CHEMISTRY - REVIEW QUESTIONS

Hello people. it is chemistry time !! I am currently studying in UiTM PAlam, Foundation in science.
since I am in my sem break, I decided to do a little study on the subjects that I am going to learn in the 2nd semester. so here is the first chapter for sem 2. enjoy.

ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

REVIEW QUESTIONS

CLASSES OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS
24.1 Explain why carbon is able to form so many more compounds than any other element?
ANSWER :
  • Because carbon atoms are able not only to form single, double and triple carbon-carbon bonds, but also to link up with each other in chains and ring structures.
  • Because carbon atoms can link up with other carbon atoms in straight and branched chains.

24.2 What is the difference between aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons ?
ANSWER : *KIV
  • Aliphatic hydrocarbons are divided into alkanes, alkenes and alkynes.
  • Aromatic hydrocarbons are Benzene.
ALIPHATIC HYDROCARBONS
24.3 What do "saturated" and "unsaturated" mean when applied to hydrocarbons?
Give examples of a saturated hydrocarbon and unsaturated hydrocarbon.
ANSWER :
  •  Saturated hydrocarbon contains the maximum number of hydrogen atoms that can bond with the number of carbon atoms present . Example : Alkanes
  • Unsaturated hydrocarbon are compounds with double or triple carbon-carbon bonds that enable them to add hydrogen atoms. Example : Alkenes
24.4 Give three sources of methane
ANSWER :
  • Termites

3D DRAWINGS ON THE FLOOR : IPOH PARADE

Hello hello readers.

Today I went to Ipoh Parade with my siblings. Guess what, we arrived as early as 10 A.M. the stores were just opening. Some of them are not even opened yet. Want to know why? My big brother wanted to get a free limited Bonuslink Card with free points. In our mind , we thought that there must be a lot of people, like queuing up to get those cards, so we decided to go as early as soon as the entrance door opened. Funny that there were no one as early as we were. Well, there were some people but they were not there for the cards. haha. Funny. But my brother got what he wanted, he was happy so he decided to go walk around the mall with me and my younger sister.
Yeah, not much stores were opened so we just went walking around looking at cheap clothes. Yes, they were really cheap and pretty ! Me and my sister wanted them, but decided to just stick with window shooping for the time being. Just looking around, surveying the prices and walked aimlessly.

Until at this one path, there were drawings on the floor ! Not just ordinary drawings, but 3D. it was so cool. We even took some pictures.

Me with an alligator

My sister on the stairs with creepy hands beneath it

It was so cool. Looked kinda real, right? There were more, but these two are my favourite. And I am sure there were more at some other paths that we didn't walk at. So if think this is cool, and you want to be cool like us too :P , just come to Ipoh Parade. Yes, it is free. Just use your own camera and take the pic on your own of course. There weren't a lot of people anyways. Or maybe because we were at the mall too early. haha

okay, thanks for reading.

much love,

CONEY DOG RECIPE : BOLOGNESE STYLE

hello readers !

here I am going to share with you another HOMEMADE recipe.

Coney Dog : Bolognese style.

Yes, I love Coney dog. I usually eat this for lunch at my University, as I am always on-the-go, and it is very delicious and satisfying.
But since I am at home, due to sem -break, I decided to try making these at home.
and it was a success! It is not exactly the same, but it is a thumbs up. My sister loved it she actually had two. haha. okay, so here is the recipe.
I have to tell you that I love measurements using cups because that is so much easier. so, here goes.

CONEY DOG :
BOLOGNESE STYLE @ EDA'S STYLE

INGREDIENTS :
  • 1/3 cup chopped Yellow bell pepper
  • 1/3 cup chopped Carrot
  • 1 cup minced beef
  • 2 cloves chopped Garlic
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • A pinch of salt and pepper
  • A pinch of spaghetti Bolognese herbs (can easily get at supermarkets ) *additional
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup chilli sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 5 fried sausages
  • 5 pieces of Cheddar cheese (like Cheesedale )
  • 5 hotdog buns
METHOD :

BOLOGNESE :
1. Saute onion and garlic.
2. Add minced beef. Add some salt, pepper and herbs. Mix.
3. Once beef is cooked, add bell peppers and carrot. Let it cook for a minute.
4. Add the sauce and water. Bring to a boil.

Try give it a taste and improve on it if must. But this is the rough 'sketch' of the recipe and I think it is super easy and fast. You can also use this recipe for Bolognese spaghetti. Just add some more sauce and water and you have your spaghetti Bolognese.

ARRANGEMENT :

1. Put cheese in the bun.
2. Put the fried sausage on the cheese. (Hot sausage will melt the cheese a bit. YUM ! )
3. Put the Bolognese on top. As much as you want or just until it covers the sausage.
4. This is additional, add some mayonnaise and chilli sauce on top. But I didn't and it still tasted great!

so that is all. Super easy, just using the ingredients that you already have at home. This recipe is for 5 servings. okay, thanks for reading.

much love,
EDA

TYPE OF EXERCISE OR SPORTS THAT APPEAL THE MOST TO THE YOUNG

hello silver linings.

THIS IS A FIGHT !

Nah..this is actually another MUET exercise for SPEAKING: GROUP DISCUSSION. it's kinda like a debate. here's the situation:

In order to have future leaders who are healthy, the youths of today must be encouraged to make exercise and sports a way of life. What exercise or sport would appeal to these youths?

yeah, that's the situation. now I am going to write about the sports that most youths are likely to attracted to.This time, it's gonna be kinda like a group discussion, with 4 different people. you'll understand as you read this. I might just use 3 opinions in this discussion.  so, let's begin !

:)
A:          Good morning once again to everyone. We are here to focus on the issue at hand which is the type of exercise or sports that would appeal the most to youths . I would like to invite anyone of you to kickstart this discussion by giving us your point of view.

B: Allow me to begin. First of all, youths of today must be encouraged to make exercise and sports a way of life in order to have healthy and strong future leaders. As we all know, there are many types of sports and exercise . Therefore, we must decide which sports that would appeal the most to these youths. In my opinion, I strongly believe that body building in the gym is the type of sport that most youth today would likely to be attracted to. This is because I think youths today do not like to be outdoors and body building in the gym is the most suitable as it is an indoor sports. . Moreover, you can go there regardless of the weather.

C: I see your point but how about sports like Futsal. Futsal is also an indoor sports and as you stated earlier, the young do not like to go outdoors, so futsal is also suitable. I think futsal is more exciting as there is fierce competition among the team. In this way, the young can exercise and at the same time develop healthy competition among them.

D : I don't quite agree with you because sometimes not everyone is always free to play together everyday  . Besides, not all players can play at the same time, the ones who don't play will have to watch the others play or be spectators, which is not healthy . I think it would be more useful if youths take up swimming as their sports. As we all know, Malaysia is a hot country and swimming keeps you cool. Everyone knows swimming is a very good exercise for keeping fit as well.

A : Yes, I agree with you. To add to your point, those who can afford it like the exclusivity of private clubs and pools. Moreover, there are many condos nowadays, even in small towns, and most of these condos have swimming pools.

C : I'm afraid I don't see the eye to eye with both of you. Swimming is not the sport that appealing the most to youths because they will have to spend money just to go to a pool no matter where it is located. Unlike swimming, Futsal is not expensive. Futsal is a team sport, so youths can share their money to pay for the Futsal court, thus making it not expensive to play Futsal everyday. Can you understand what I'm trying to say ?

B : Indeed, I do see your point of view but I still feel that the best sports for youths is body building at the gym because just look at the number of gyms, like Celebrity Fitness, Fitness Concept and True Yoga that have mushroomed in all towns. The young like to be in such trendy places. That's why gyms have huge glass windows where all the people exercising can be seen.

D : That's an interesting perspective and I agree with you that the young do like attention by spending time at such trendy places. However, I think we should consider other points. Swimming is a sport where the young get to show off their bodies when hey wear their swimsuits. Hanging around the swimming pool and sunbathing is also viewed as a trend among foreigners and young people like to emulate them. This way, youths also can keep up with trends and keeping fit at the same time.

A : I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. Can you explain it again , please.

D : What I mean is youths are mostly attracted to swimming because it will give them more benefits. This is because not only they can keep themselves fit, they can also show off their bodies when they wear swimsuits .

. . .

dum dum duuuummmmmm !
what do you think would be the end of this discussion? I have no clue either. truthfully I am pretty tired now from all the different points and being 4 person at the same time ! huh
well, above all,
sorry guys, I was  just writing along. not sure if it is really rational or not .  until this last sentence realised that this is quite stupid. but I am going to post it anyways. plot twist. haisy.

thank for reading.
much love,
EDA

REASONS PARENTS SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO TUITION CLASSES

hello black spiders. okay i'm sorry if you hate spiders, but I think they're kinda cute. mmeh..

Let me tell you my life story about tuition classes. I used to be very proud of myself because I didn't have to go to tuition classes to get good grades. I only went to tuition class like for a month, when I was to take my UPSR, 12 year old big exam. then I hated it as it didn't help me in any way at all. you know how tuition classes are supposed to help you understand the subject better, right? wanna know something? it didn't. the class was so crowded with students. sometimes, you don't have enough chairs or tables so the class is held outside the classroom. I always ended up sitting at the back, and my eyes were not really great so I couldn't see anything at the whiteboard. And when I tried to ask the teachers to teach me about a question I'm stuck with, he just said,

"yeah yeah. do it."

and walked away. don't get me started on how noisy the classroom were at the time. at that point, I gave up and told my mum I quit. so yeah, I quit. it was a sh*tty tuition class anyways.

but that was long before. I had to attend tuition classes again in my last school year because I did not have a clue of what I was studying at school. it was all a blur until I went to a tuition class. but that's just for 2 tough subjects. Can you guess it? Yup, Additional Mathematics and Physics. hey, SPM Physics is hard to me, okay. lucky you if you feel like SPM physics was easy. but I got A- anyways. :P thiss time, tuition classes helped me a lot. yeah, satisfied. :)

so now I am going to write about what's so good about tuition classes.

YEAH, WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT TUITION CLASSES?

1. PROVIDE BETTER SERVICES

First of all, tuition centres provide better services. The main reason parents want to send their children to tuition centres is because tuition are well-known to have small classes. Small classes means less students. This way, teachers are able to give individual attention to each and every students that need help in the topics they have a problem with. The students' work are also checked on the spot and students will be able to learn from it right away.
My next point is tuition classes have better classrooms than the ones at school. For example, some tuition centres are air-conditioned and provide comfortable tables and chairs. There are also lots of revision and workbooks in tuition centres than notes. Even the notes are short notes, easy to memorise and easy to understand.
Another reason is we can get the best teachers from tuition classes. Notice that parents has to pay these teachers well because they charge high fees? That's because the centres monitor the teachers. They get the best teachers from different school to teach at the tuition classes. Parents also able to freely consult the teachers as well as management, whether they want to check on their children's progress or just want to check the way of teaching. mmeehh

2.  STANDARD OF TEACHING IN SCHOOLS HAD DETERIORATED

One factor why parents send their children to tuition classes is because the standard of teaching in schools had deteriorated. I am not trying to say that the teachers way of teaching has gotten worse , but the standard is. For instance, there are a lot of students attend school, so there are large class size. This way, teachers are not able to give individual attention to each students, since they are given a period of time for each class. Other than that, teacher's job is to cover the syllabus, and due to  limited time, it does not matter whether the students understand the lessons or not, they have to finish the syllabus.
Secondly, the teachers are involved in many activities such as meetings and events, so this means that the teachers are already overworked. How are they going to completely focus in teaching when they are already too busy with other things? Which leads to another problem, which are claims from parent that children's homework are not marked. Sometimes, it is not that the teacher does not  want to mark student's work, it's just that they don't really have the time to do so, especially for teachers who teach a number of classes with lots of students. So, the teachers have to take the easy way by asking the students to mark each other's work. This way, the teachers cannot really know each students' weakness and thus cannot help improve. We cannot really blame the teachers but once in a while teachers can get frustrated and may have lost interest in teaching.

3. EDUCATION HAS BECOME TOO COMPETITIVE

Nowadays, education has become too competitive especially in schools. Parents as well as schools expect their children to get straight A's. We can see today that a lot of emphasis and publicity are given to number of A's achieved. Schools also compete with one another, trying to get the highest percentage of straight A's students. Other than that, parents are also constantly comparing their children with others while wanting them to outdo others. So they send teeir children to tuition classes so that their children get extra time studying.

SO, those are the three main reasons why parents send their children to tuition classes.

that's pretty much it.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A CAREER

hello, dear bubble gums!

today I will be writing about CAREERS!(Warning: might have some grammatical error here and there. sorry! )

As we are growing to adults, of course we will be thinking of the career that we want to pursue , right? Sometimes, even like me, I have problems thinking of the careers that I really want. To make things easier, there are actually certain factors we need to consider when choosing a career . and here are the four most important factors to consider when choosing your career.

1. GOOD WORKING ENVIRONMENT

First one would be a good working environment. This is because one spends many hours at workplace. For example, people who works at office hours work from as early as 8 o'clock in the morning and finishes working at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. This goes on for 5 days a week, not including working overtime or working on Saturdays and Sundays. We can say that people spends most of their time at workplace. So we want to choose a good workplace, a place that you love and does not mind to be at for a long period of time.
Another reason is because a workplace is a place that enables one to get along with colleagues. Since workplace is the place where will be spending our times the most at, this means that we will have to interact with our work colleagues the most as well. If we don't get along with our work mates, then how are we going to increase our productivity of work? That is why a good workplace will enable a person to get along well with each other at all times.
A good workplace can also affects a person's job and the degree of commitment. Why? well we all know that a happy person tends to be more productive and active than a dull and passive person, right? This means that a happy environment can lead to a happy person thus making them more productive in work. (if that makes sense, it does to me )  A happy environment does not have to be a colourful place like a kindergarten , but just a neat and good looking place is good enough. It is depends on the person actually. Some people loves to work at a hectic environment, like the hospitals or construction site, and that makes them happy. It doesn't really matter as long as the person likes it. Moreover, this will also frees one from emotional and mental stress. as I stated earlier, a happy environment leads to a happy person. Obviously .a person that is free from emotional and mental stress is a happy person. so that's why workplace is an important factor when choosing a career.

2. A GOOD SALARY

Secondly , a good salary is also an important factor to look at when choosing a career. Most people will say that salary is the number one factor to look at when applying for a job. this is because it enables to cover expenditure without worries. Once you know that your salary is enough for you to survive, then you will not be worrying about the extra money that you need to  get in order for you to make a living. That is why you must be satisfied with the amount of money you are earning , so that you don't have to look for a part-time job and work over-time than you should.
A good salary also gives you a head start to negotiating salary in the next job. There are a lot of tips that you can search for to negotiate your salary of you were ever to find a new job or getting promoted. Other than that, you will also be able to achieve certain short-term goals. For instance, a short term goal is like buying a car, or a house. With the good salary that you make, you can achieve these goals much easier than having to wait a longer time or work extra time to get the extra money in achieving your short-term goal.
Everyone needs motivation and support in their lives, right? In this case, good salary can be a motivational factor for you to work harder. This is perfect for businessmen as they get their pays from the amount of sales they make in a day or a week. The more things they sell, the more money they will get. Which is why a good salary can motivate you to work harder, and which is why a good salary is one of the important factor to look at when looking for a job.

 3. FUTURE PROPECTS

With future prospects, you will not need to worry of being stuck in the same position for years. . In today's job market, no position is forever. I mean, if were to work for the position forever, do you really want to the job? Doing the same work, same routine everyday for your whole life. At some point you will want to change that and look for a new job. Future prospect  is having a clear idea of where the person is heading to. It will also encourages one to work harder as it will be rewarded. That is why future prospect is an important factor to consider when looking for a job.

4. PERSONAL INTEREST

Last but not least, personal interest. There's not much to describe a bout this one. If you like the job you are doing, regardless what it is, the of course you will be happy and feel at peace.  It all depends on your interest. You might not get interested in a certain job, but there are some other people who are actually looking forward for the job. Other than that, you can get over any stress or frustration in the job. I mean, if you already like the job, then all the stress and frustration will be just for a short while. You will feel that those are the challenges for you to deal with.
Another important thing is the job will give you the most personal satisfaction. Money can but everything, but not personal satisfaction. You enjoy doing your job, you feel happy doing the job, then you feel satisfied with it. Also, you will be loyal to the organization and will stay long in the job. If your career is like a dream come true to you, would you ever trade it for another job that you don't even know whether you will enjoy or not? I believe that you will hold on the career and stay long in it.

YUP.

SO, yeah. that's the four important factors to consider when choosing  a career. Which do you think is the most important? The environment, the money, the future prospects, or the personal interest?

Thank you for reading. ;)

MUCH LOVE,
EDA
